Learn English in South Malta!
Marsascala is a seaside village in Malta, located in the southeast of the island. Starting out as a Sicilian fishing community (its name translates to “Sicilian harbour”), modern day Marsascala is a thriving hub of activity, especially during the warm summer months.
As well as being popular with foreign tourists, Marsascala is one of very few locations on the island that can claim to be a popular seaside resort among the Maltese themselves; as Malta is a small island, most other seaside resorts serve only as day trip locations for the island’s residents, however, Marsascala’s southeasterly location, gives it a lively, yet more rural feel than the now merging mass of towns and communities to its north (such as St. Julians, Sliema etc.), making it an ideal place for a seaside weekend getaway.
Despite its popularity with external and internal tourists alike, Marsascala has retained its local feel and still has a reputation as a fishing village, which is reflected in its gastronomy scene; Marsascala boasts some of the finest seafood restaurants in Malta!
Marsascala also attracts with its beaches, rocky coastline and its proximity to Marsaxlokk, a neighbouring fishing village, that has perhaps retained the essence of real Maltese life more than any other city on the island - and whose Sunday fish & souvenir market is not to be missed!
