The beautiful game quite literally reaches new heights with friLingue’s football camp up in the Swiss Alps this summer!

This hot summer football camp in Valais combines footballing fun with interactive language courses in groups of six (French, German & English), so lace up your boots and experience a football week full of educational & fun training sessions as well as dynamic language lessons, all at Champions League level of course!

For kids & teens aged 10 - 17 years.

15th - 21st July 2018

Our newest camp takes place in our chalet in the Alpine village of Liddes in St. Bernard, Valais, not to be mistaken with Leeds in Yorkshire, North England, home of the once-dominant Leeds United - though we’re sure that plenty of you will emulate their past success after joining us!

Those attending this camp will combine morning language lessons with afternoon and evening football training, challenges and matches - with some relaxing downtime activities and a friday night disco thrown in for good measure!

Language classes

In this camp, you have the choice between three languages; Premier League English, Ligue 1 Français or Bundesliga Deutsch. Our young and enthusiastic teachers give classes in small groups of around six students per class, allowing for more teacher-student contact. The three hour morning language sessions contain a healthy mixture of grammar, practical language use and fun & engaging projects that are designed to make the language more accessible to young students.

Football

During the afternoons and some evenings, football training, challenges and matches will take place with our experienced football coaches at the full-sized pitch and training facilities, just a two minute walk away from our chalet. Participants will learn to develop their individual skill sets as well as how to play as a team through training ground drills, individual development techniques and real in-game practice. Between them, our coaching staff will also speak all three languages offered in the camp.

And as our camp begins on the day of the World Cup final, what better way to kick things off than by sitting down to enjoy the biggest event in world football?!

Accommodation

Participants will be accommodated in dormitories and shared bedrooms in our Alpine mountain chalet, with shared toilets and showers. Accommodation is on a full board basis with three meals a day cooked by our very own in house chef being provided as well as extra fruit and snacks throughout the day to keep energy levels up!

This is an opportunity not to be passed up, so take a touch and shoot for the top corner!

During our afternoon and evening football training sessions, students will learn not only to progress as individual talents, but, more importantly to develop and play together as a team through drills, passing and team building exercises with our experienced and multilingual coaches.

While teamwork is paramount in football, it is also to important focus upon and treat each player as an individual at times, which is why time will also be taken to care for and nurture the skill set and prefered positioning of each individual player according to their preferences, skills and footballing knowledge. This will be complemented by moving back to a more team-based training model that takes influence from the famous 'total football' method, made famous by the Dutch national team in the 1970s. This will involve game practice with players constantly rotating positions, resulting in players thus gaining a greater understanding of their fellow players and the game as a whole.

As well as the more practical elements explained above, time will also be taken to teach students about tactics, reading of the game and game management; football's played with the head, as much as it is with the feet.

Workshops

As well as new language and football skills, we also want to give students the chance to wind down and try their hand at something different, which is why we offer different workshops during the late afternoon after training, including:

  • Media and photography
  • Art
  • Swimming

Depending on the strengths and interests of the children, and also of our staff, we offer at least two different workshops per afternoon.

Excursions

You'll also get the chance to visit the surrounding area with two excursions per week; one midweek afternoon excursion and another full day excursion on the Saturday.

Destinations include:

  • Hike to the Col St. Bernard with a visit to the Hospice, the church and the Bernardine dog museum
  • Rope park La Fouly
  • Swimming in Bourg St. Pierre
  • Staumauer Les Toules
  • Martigny
  • Sion / customs
  • Verticalp Emosson
  • Aosta Valley (Italy)
