Sidmouth is a charming coastal town in the southwest of England, located on the stunning Jurassic Coast. With its beaches, traditional architecture and relaxed atmosphere, this welcoming town offers a typically British setting and ideal conditions for a language stay.
The Sidmouth International School is a private, family-run language school founded in 1976. With many years of experience and a friendly, personal atmosphere, the school specialises in international language stays for different age groups.
The school is accredited by the British Council and places great importance on high quality standards and personal support. In the EL Gazette UK Language Centre Rankings 2024–25, it was ranked among the top 20% of British Council-accredited language centres in the UK.

General English Course for Teenagers (14–17 years) – year-round

This English course is designed for teenagers who want to improve their language skills and become more confident using English.
The course includes 15 hours of English lessons per week. Lessons take place Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:30 in international groups with a maximum of 15 students per class. Outside the summer season, classes may be smaller and international classes cannot always be guaranteed during quieter periods.
The social programme includes four afternoon activities, one half-day excursion, three evening activities and one full-day excursion. Outside the summer season, the social programme may be lighter and full-day excursions are subject to availability and student numbers.

Students also receive support with independent learning and study skills. For stays of four weeks or more, a personal tutor is provided.

This English course is designed for children and tweens and combines age-appropriate English lessons with a varied and supervised social programme.
The course includes 15 hours of English lessons per week. Lessons take place Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:30, with a maximum of 12 students per class. Lessons help students develop their English skills and become increasingly confident and independent when using the language.
The supervised social programme includes five afternoon activities, one half-day excursion and one full-day excursion per week. This gives students the opportunity to spend time together outside the classroom and use their English in everyday situations.
Students stay with carefully selected host families in a shared room with full board. Daily journeys between the homestay and the school are accompanied by the host family or a member of the school team.

During their stay, students live with carefully selected host families in Sidmouth and the surrounding area. Host families are vetted in accordance with British Council requirements and are regularly visited by the school.
Accommodation is generally provided in shared rooms. Where possible, the school aims to place students of different nationalities together to encourage communication in English. However, this cannot always be guaranteed.
For teenagers and young adults aged 14–18, half board with breakfast and dinner is included. Lunch can be purchased locally. Host families are within walking distance of the school; if the walk takes more than 30 minutes, a bus pass is provided.
For children aged 7–11 and Tweens aged 12–13, full board is included. Daily journeys between the homestay and the school are accompanied by the host family or a member of the school team.
Activities & free time
In the afternoons, students take part – depending on the programme – in a varied activity programme including sports, cultural and social activities, all supervised by trained staff.
For younger participants (7–13), a high level of supervision is ensured, while older students are gradually given more independence.
Excursions
The programme usually includes one half-day excursion during the week and one full-day excursion at the weekend (except during the departure week).
Excursions vary depending on the season and may include destinations such as Exeter, Dartmoor or the surrounding coastal areas.

Activities
There will be many opportunities to participate in different activities:
- Test your skills on the obstacle course.
- By playing different team games you will have the opportunity to get to know your classmates better.
- Race ahead by going quad biking or go-karting.
- Do not forget about water sports, such as kayaking and paddle boarding.
- Relax during the time at the beach.
- Become an actor or actress at the theater.
- Let loose on the slip-n-slide!
There’s even evening entertainment:
- The disco, essential to each camp, will surely be the highlight of your stay.
- The movie night is more peaceful and, since all movies are shown in English, you’ll even learn something.!
- Fun & Games: An evening full of entertainment and diversion.
- In addition, a barbecue is included in this perfect language stay.
- And who could forget the campfire by the sea?
Excursions
Each week, a full day trip and a half-day excursion are organised.
- Exeter - Charming little town with a university, historic cathedral and town hall, superb shopping center, river and canal.
- Bristol - A major port city that is one of the largest cities in England. The historic docks, famous ships, zoo, shopping center and magnificent cathedral make Bristol famous.
- Dartmoor and Buckfastleigh - A beautiful picturesque park with wild horses and walking paths. Buckfast Abbey is famous for its honey made by Benedictine monks.
- Totnes and Dartmouth - Totnes is a small town known for its crafts, cruise ships and castle.
- Bath - As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city of Bath is home to many museums, an abbey and various Roman ruins.
- Wookey, Wells and Street - Wells is one of the smallest cities in England but has many assets: a magnificent cathedral and an episcopal palace surrounded by moats. Street is well known for its cheap shoe and designer stores.
- Plymouth - Modern city with excellent shopping, Plymouth is home to the largest shipyards in Europe. Students can sail around the harbor and visit the historical museum that tells the story of the city.
- Exmoor and Dunster Castle - Located on the edge of the beautiful Exmoor Park, Dunster is a preserved medieval village.
- Stonehenge and Salisbury - Stonehenge, whose name means "Supended Stones", is a megalithic monument erected during the Neolithic era. Salisbury has a cathedral containing the oldest clock still in working order.
The airport transfer from and to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is included in the price for Saturday arrivals and departures.
To use the organised airport transfer, the following flight times must be observed:
- Arrival at London Heathrow before 15:00
- Departure from London Heathrow no earlier than 13:45
The journey between London Heathrow and Sidmouth takes approximately 3.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions.
Detailed information about the meeting point and transfer arrangements will be provided separately to parents before travel.
Arrivals and departures take place on Saturdays. For flights outside the specified times or arrivals/departures at another airport, alternative transfer options can be arranged at an additional cost.
Flights are not included in the price.
For children aged 7 to 13 travelling without an accompanying adult, an additional Meet & Greet service is mandatory. This service is charged separately. If an Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service has been booked with the airline, this must be indicated when registering.
