Sport
Biarritz is considered one of the oldest surf spots in Europe. When American surfers arrived in the 1950s, they were immediately impressed by the waves and long sandy beaches. To this day, surfing remains an essential part of life in Biarritz, alongside its relaxed Atlantic lifestyle.
Our partner school is centrally located, just a short walk from the beach. In a charming building with a garden and swimming pool, students from around the world learn French in a welcoming and international environment.
Lessons take place in small groups and focus on the active use of the language. In addition to the course, students spend several afternoons per week at the surf school, where they can learn to surf or improve their skills under professional guidance, regardless of their level.
The programme is complemented by shared activities and excursions in the region, for example to Bayonne or Saint-Jean-de-Luz, creating a balanced mix of language learning, sport and discovery.
Accommodation is provided in carefully selected host families, allowing students to practise French in everyday life and experience the local culture.

French lessons take place from Monday to Friday. Students attend 20 lessons per week, totalling 15 hours, in classes with a maximum of 14 participants to ensure personal support and an intensive learning experience. All teachers have extensive teaching experience and hold a university degree in French as a Foreign Language (FLE).
In addition to language classes, you will also benefit from four 1.5-hour surf lessons each week. The schedule may vary depending on weather conditions and tides to ensure you can practise as much as possible and soon ride the waves like a pro. The following applies:
- Surf lessons are held in groups of up to 8 participants and taught by the language school’s long-standing professional partner on site.
- At the beginning of your language stay, you will take a swimming test at Port Vieux beach.
- All surf equipment is provided by the school.
Participants stay with carefully selected host families in the Biarritz, Anglet or Bayonne area.
Accommodation is in shared rooms with other international students of a similar age. Whenever possible, the school aims to mix different nationalities to encourage communication in French.
Host families offer an authentic insight into everyday French life and are regularly checked by the school.
Breakfast and dinner are taken with the host family, while packed lunches are provided for outdoor activities.
Host families are usually located within approximately 30 to 40 minutes of the school (by public transport).
Please note that participants travel to and from the school by public transport. The bus pass costs approximately €12 per week and must be purchased on site.
French course
The course includes 20 lessons of 45 minutes per week and takes place from Monday to Friday in the morning. An online placement test is completed before arrival, followed by an oral assessment at the beginning of the stay.
Classes are held in international groups with a maximum of 14 students and are suitable for levels from A2 to C1.
Surf course
The programme includes several surf sessions per week, which take place on suitable beaches in Biarritz. Lessons are led by qualified surf instructors and take place in small groups.
All levels are welcome, and participants are grouped according to their abilities. Surf schedules depend on tides and may vary.
Activities & excursions
In addition to the language and surf programme, students take part in a range of supervised cultural and social activities.
Each week includes one half-day excursion and one full-day excursion, as well as a shared evening activity.
Notes
A short swimming test takes place at the beginning of the stay and is required to participate in water activities.
This is a sample programme. Activities, excursions and surf sessions may vary depending on weather conditions, tides or organisational factors.
At the beginning of the stay, a short swimming test takes place at Port Vieux beach. This is required in order to participate in the surf programme.
Surf lessons take place several times per week and last approximately 1.5 hours. The schedule depends on tides and weather conditions and may vary accordingly.
Lessons are held in small groups of up to 8 students and are led by qualified instructors holding recognised certifications such as the State Certificate or BPJEPS (Brevet Professionnel de la Jeunesse, de l’Éducation Populaire et du Sport).
During the sessions, students not only learn surfing techniques but also gain insights into the local surf culture and practical tips. Lessons are conducted in French, allowing students to practise the language in a natural and engaging way.
If sessions are cancelled due to weather conditions, they will be rescheduled where possible.
The Junior programme includes free weekly activities for the participants.
The activities included will be:
- A city-tour on Mondays for new students
- One half-day cultural excursion per week (Bayonne, Saint Jean de Luz, Biarritz and Hendaye)
- Every afternoon: sports, social, recreational and cultural activities
- One full-day excursion on Saturday
